JEE (Main) will become the preferred choice of entrance examination as a gateway to undergraduate engineering courses for students of Gujarat, Maharashtra and Odisha from 2014.

We have compiled all the available information about the exam for students of these states as well as others who will be taking the exam.

The apex board will be releasing more detailed information in the second week of November.

JEE (Main)-2014 will be held on April 6, 2014.

What is JEE?

The JEE (Main)-2014 is an entrance exam conducted by the JEE Apex Board for admission to

Undergraduate Engineering Programmes in NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical

Institutions (CFTIs), participating State Government Institutions etc.

Admissions to engineering institutes in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Odisha will be on the basis of JEE (Main)-2014 scores.

The JEE (Main) will also be the eligibility test for the JEE (Advanced), which the students will have to take if they are looking to get into the engineering courses offered by the IITs and ISM Dhanbad.

Eligibility:

- Only general candidates born on or after October 1, 1989 and SC/ST/Person with Disability candidates born on or after October 1, 1984 are eligible to appear for JEE (Main)-2014.

- Students who have passed their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2012 or 2013; or those who are appearing for their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2014 are eligible to appear in JEE (Main) – 2014.

- The number of attempts is limited to only three.

Maharashtra and Odisha have been exempted from the age-limit and limit on number of attempts will be according to their state-level exams. But this won’t be applicable for admissions in to IITs/NITs/IIITs/ and other CFTIs.

Weightage:

The marks scored by the students in the JEE (Main) will not be the be-all and end-all.

In a move aimed to stop students neglecting the board exams and concentrating only on the entrance examinations, the merit list will be prepared based on 40% weightage to school Boards marks in class 12th or equivalent examination (after normalization) and 60% weightage to JEE (Main).

How to apply:

Candidates will be able to apply online from November 15, 2013.

Application form and eligibility criteria will be available on the official website: www.jeemain.nic.in.

Last date for application is December 26, 2013.

Facilitation Centres will be set-up across the country who will help the candidates in filling online application without any charge.
