Medical entrance exams 2014: AIPMT vs NEET

Suggested Readings: ,,,,,
|

The All-India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) will be replacing the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) from 2014. It will be held on May 4, 2014.

Students may recall the delay in NEET-PG results in 2013 resulted in frustration.

Lakhs of students and parents did not know whether they have been admitted to medical colleges or had to continue their jobs.

The Supreme Court ruled that there would be no single medical entrance exam in July 2013.

So what does this decision mean for those of you who are about to sit for AIPMT?

Students should know that AIPMT is not the same as NEET, although there are some similarities.

Here is what you need to know:

————————–
#1 The syllabus is the same as NEET
————————–

The syllabus for AIMPT is the same as NEET. You can see the syllabus on the Medical Council of India’s website.

Note: Students in coaching centres will not be affected by the change

————————–
#2 There will be one paper
————————–

There is one paper for AIMPT with 180 objective (multiple choice) questions. Questions will be based on Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Zoology. There will be 45 questions in each section.

This is similar to NEET.

Note: It is not clear if there will be negative marking for AIMPT.

————————–
#3 AIMPT will be for a 15% national quota in government medical/dental colleges
————————–

This is a major difference between NEET and AIMPT. NEET was an all-India exam. AIMPT will not be conducted in Andhra Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

————————–
#4 Not all medical and dental colleges will accept AIMPT
————————–

The score will be valid for colleges across India that want to accept AIMPT scores.
